Hidden Gems at Local Museums!

With the cold weather, it’s hard to get out of the house and find something to do, especially with antsy children in-tow. Museums are always a fun, cheap (and warm) idea. Here are some museums offering classes and activities to keep you occupied during these long winter months.

Einstein's Workshop

A place where kids interested in science, technology, engineering and math can go to explore. They offer classes that teach kids about how to use certain electronics, such as laser printers, and classes which teach certain mathematical equations. This is a perfect way to get your child interested and ready to learn about math and science before they enter high school. They also offer classes over February vacation for the whole week. Some include Robotics with Legos, Modern Architecture, and Game Making with Scratch Programming. All classes are $220 for the week. http://www.einsteinsworkshop.com/

The Butterfly Workshop at The Museum of Science

Butterflies from all around the world are fluttering around when you enter this warm room filled with tropical and exotic plants. Throughout the room, there are caterpillars in the different stages of metamorphosis. The exhibit is permanent, so you have plenty of time to enjoy it!

Sea Monsters: A Prehistoric Adventure at The Museum of Science

Who doesn’t think dinosaurs are interesting? Especially ones from the ocean! This exhibit is a 3-D film, so sit back and enjoy the realistic computer-generated marine creatures. Footage from actual paleontological digs is shown as well. Fun fact: the bones that inspired this exhibit were found right here in the U.S. in Kansas. Be careful not to get swallowed up by this sea monster when you go! http://www.mos.org/3d/sea-monsters

Body Worlds Vital at Faneuil Hall

For all the future doctors out there, this exhibit is a must-see. The main purpose is to educate people on how disease starts and affects the body. The bodies have been preserved through a process called Plasination. This exhibit will only be here for a limited time: so go while you still can. Grab lunch at one of Quincy Market’s many food places before you go. http://bodyworldsboston.com/
